I came into this class with photography as a hobby, a camera I bought for myself, and a drive to get better at photography. Looking back, I was only okay at photography. I didn't understand composition, aperture, or ISO. I relied on using my eye for photography instead of using composition and the right settings for the location. This changed very quickly. This was the first photo I took for the class. Not great. However, I learned from all of my mistakes very quickly. The next assignment was composition 2. In that assignment, I started to hone my abilities as a photographer, and actually thinking about my shots instead of just hitting the shutter button when what I saw looked good. Only a few days later and already so much improvement. However, there was still a lot of work to be done. As a photographer, my favorite thing to do is portraits. Honestly, anything with people is very fun to me. So, for the first week of photo assignments, I went all out. I bought some smoke bombs and had a dancer help me out, creating these. Much better than before, but yet again, still improvement to be had. I didn't pay much attention to the backgrounds in these shots, and it hurt the look of the photos. I really want to do this again, and I hope to be able to soon. Smoke isn't cheap. If we flash forward a week, we get to the most difficult photos I've ever taken. Macro. These were so difficult to take because when you're zoomed in super far, nothing stops moving. It was also my first try with a macro lens, but I think it went pretty well. This assignment was so fun to do. Now, we will flash forward to the end of the trimester. I'm way more confident in my abilities, I understand my camera inside and out, and I'm excited to take on the photography world and try more and more new things that push me out of my comfort zone. My last assignment was still life, and I love the way it looks. All in all, this was one of the most fun classes I've ever taken. I got to spend time doing something I enjoy while getting better at it in the process. I've improved a lot over these last 12 weeks, and I can't way to keep working on this craft.
